Back to the Future

Back when we got married in 1981...this was what was available for cooking out, as we called it: a Weber grill. We enjoyed it, but I have to admit, I was sometimes very annoyed by it and soon along came the newest, latest, greatest invention: propane grills and what a thrill! No waiting for charcoal to heat up, and we could cook out in the rain, in the snow, whenever we wanted, as long as we had the gas and with electric ignition we didn't even have to hunt up a match and there were no ashes to dump!

But alas, we lost something along the way....we lost that special CHARBROILED taste, and now we are back to the original...the Weber. We haven't given up propane, because some nights are just too hectic to be waitin' on the charcoal (I recommend the "Match Light" charcoal; even I can get a decent fire going in the grill with that stuff! It's pretreated with lighter fluid!)

Now, I need to get my mojo goin' with the wood chips and getting in mind ahead of time to soak them when I want that yummy wood smoke flavor. We're enjoying this grill for some special meals.....and boy does everything smell SO GOOD when it's cookin'!

Got any special things YOU like to cook on the WEBER?

I'm with you it just tastes better with charcoal. It tastes even better with red oak, which is what we always bbq'd with when we lived in Calif. But we always use the propane grill now. It's just too easy. Mimi

We have a funny story about Weber grills, LOL. When we visited Wisconsin back in the late 80s, we couldn't help but notice that people owned a LOT of Weber grills. So we created a fun game while we drove and would try to beat each out in calling out "Weber" whenever we saw one. We saw hundreds of them! To this day, whenever we see one, we do a shout out, LOL!

We have a huge, beautiful stainless gas grill. And we have a nasty, black smoker grill. Guess which one we use most? Nasty, smoker grill! Nothing beats the taste of charcoal with some apple wood chips mixed in. We don't use lighter fluid anymore either. We bought one of those charcoal chimneys or whatever. Meijer sells them...Target too, I think. Marinated chicken is fan-tabulous and nothing beats a charcoal grilled steak. YUMMO!

We love to grill! We made chicken tonight...we took thin slices of chicken breast and put them on skewers. They cook fast and taste wonderful! You'll have fun with this cooker!
