Howdy, Where Ya'll From?

I'm from Michigan. Today I am in Alabama...and while we're here, just about anytime we order in a restaurant, anyone on the waitstaff can tell that I'm not from here(especially when I decline the offer of grits with my breakfast). And being the friendly people they are, inevitably they always say "Where ya'll from?"

*

Well, of course, we always tell them that we're here from Michigan, that Lem is originally from here, and that we're down visiting my daughter and her husband. (Not to mention the granddoggies {Bryant, Josie, and Dixie} and grandkitties {General Jackson, General Lee and Lucky} and the grand-pottbellied piggy named Suzie!)

*

This weekend we'll be at the NASCAR race at Talladega, which has now become a spring family tradition. We meet some good friends there from Georgia and have a good old time. (I am, among other dishes, making Pioneer Woman's beef brisket for the tailgating on Sunday...recipe here. The whole process is shown, then at the bottom of the post, there's a printable recipe. It's worth EVERY bit of the work involved!)

*

So....WHERE YA'LL FROM, dear readers? I sure would love it if you just tell me your name and where you're from! And, have a glass of sweet tea while you're at it!

*

(My husband is originally from this great state in the Heart of Dixie...and maybe, after thirty years of coming here, I actually should order those grits, what do ya think? I should be a little more adventurous! Oh, and a weather report for my friends in Michigan who may be reading this...I know ya'll were supposed to have great weather the whole weekend up to Sunday....but when we got to TN it was high eighties. I looked mighty silly in my jogging suit with the fleece jacket. Now last night we slept all night with the windows open, today it's mid seventies with a gentle breeze blowing and all the windows are still open! And, I busted out the flip-flops...that in itself is a cause for celebration! It feels WONDERFUL! Now I'm off to the store to get some of the ingredients I need for the tailgating on Saturday and Sunday! See you soon!)

Born in Rhode Island, raised in the Grand Rapids, MI area. (both parents were Army, and when they married, they moved to dad's home state.) 7 years later, mom made the dumbest mistake of her life and left my dad...moved back to her home state. It is what it is, and of course, I'd never have met Farmboy, who was born here in Grand Rapids!
But....this is just a road to my REAL home with my heavenly Father!

Hey I read your went through Tn. I am from Tn.It is great here right now. In the 80's today! I am so ready for summer! I like your blog and really love your pics of your chicken house. So much in fact I have decided to paint my chicken house red. We have a white house with a green tin roof and shudders. Plus all the outbuildings,(barn, shed, etc.) are painted green. WAY too much green, so I put my foot down I told my husband I am painting the chicken house red like I saw on this post the other day. He said ok, so when summer comes I am doing it!

You know what I should have spell checked before I sent that post. Too many errors sorry about that. I start typing fast and don't pay attention. You get the gist though.

My name is Elizabeth, and I am from the great state of Alabama. I live about 20-25 minutes from Hunstville, Madison, Cullman, Arab or Decatur. I have lived here all my life and don't tell anyone but I have never eaten grits and I don't like sweet tea. However, my family likes sweet tea and I make it everyday for them but no grits. I hope you have a wonderful time at Talladega.

Blessings,
Elizabeth

I am Helen and I've lived in the Mojave Desert (Southern California) all of my life - Needles, CA to be exact. Springtime doesn't last too long out here - in fact, if you blink you might just miss it. It's already over 100.

I am from the NW and love, love, love grits! It must be from my southern ancestral line that I get that (AL,TN,KY,VA,the Carolinas, etc)--at least that's what I am going to atribute it too since I've never been east of Denver.
Have a great time at the races!!
Blessings, Aimee

Well, I'm from down here in Texas and I can't stand grits!!! Blech, don't do it, they're gross. LOL!! But I agree with a previous poster, Sweet Ice Tea is a must do, the "Housewine of the South." Cute post, loved reading all the comments too.

Well, howdy! I'm live in eastern TN and originally grew up in IN. I've lived down here long enough to consider this forever home. And I do NOT drink iced tea with sugar, LOL. I will occasionally eat grits, but it can not be runny (ick) and it has to be cheese-flavored.

Have a great tailgating party!

Hey, I'm Erin and I'm from Danville, Arkansas. I have lived in the south my whole life and have never tasted grits but love chocolate gravy, in fact had some this morning with some homemade biscuits. Good luck at the NASCAR race. Hope it's exciting.

I had to laugh out loud at this! I never thought much about my Southern accent until I took a business trip up north with a friend of mine a couple of years ago- being from Tennessee, we stuck out like sore thumbs!
