Stretching Your Food Budget

Mix ground turkey (the kind in the tubes, sometimes it's on sale for cheap, and when it is, buy a lot!) with your ground beef. Brown ground chuck in large quantities with your ground turkey, drain, crumble finely, and bag it up in quart size freezer bags with 2-3 cups each. This should be plenty of ground beef for tacos for up to 2-4 people and for a spaghetti or lasagna dinner for four to six.

If your family likes onion and/or green pepper in their ground beef, go ahead and throw that in when you're browing your burger and ground turkey.

I always try to have on hand from the freezer this ground beef mixture (we have venison, so I mix mine with venison and the turkey if I have it to stretch the ground chuck even farther!)

WHAT YOU CAN MAKE WITH YOUR GROUND BEEF PACKETS FROM THE FREEZER:

spaghetti or delicious spaghetti pie!

lasagna

stuffed shells

goulash

tacos/nachos supreme

hamburger quiche

impossible hamburger pie

sloppy joes

hamburger soup

stuffed pepper soup

taco soup

spanish rice

chili

hamburger casserole ( a seven layer dish with layers of fresh veggies that you bake altogether)
or

anything else that requires browned ground beef

Remember that by doing this, you have ELIMINATED A STEP, a very time-consuming step from the recipes making your prep time much less!! A timesaver on those busy nights when you need something fast, warm and healthy for your family.
