Vintage Milk Bottle Crate

This old crate sits on my porch.

It's a heavy old milk bottle crate, made of oak and lined with aluminum.

I can just see the delivery man climbing out of his cute little milk truck, going to the front stoop, lifting the lid and putting four frosty cold bottles of milk inside of this crate early in the morning.

I can imagine that the crate was so heavy that it was perfect to keep the milk cold until someone was able to take care of it and bring it inside.

I found it late on a late Saturday afternoon at a subdivision sale last year.
The lady of the house was tired of the stuff and told me everything was half off.
I nabbed this for $2.50 and couldn't believe that it had stayed there even for the sum of $5.

I'm pretty happy with the way the aluminum sets off those red geraniums.

There is no end to the fun things you can use from the old vintage household items to decorate around your house; both inside and out.

The best part?
Made in the USA!

Nice milk crate! We had a more modern, but still old one on our front porch for quite awhile. I remember it was always pleasant to open our milk box and get the fresh butter and milk delivered by the local milkman.

Your milk crate is a great deal and looks wonderful on your porch.

I remember the milkman coming when I was little, but I don't remember a milk crate, just a metal basket type thing that held two milk bottles. I wonder if it's because we lived by the beach, so it never got too warm.
Blessings,
Marcia

Ohhh, what a lovely post. I too remember the milk box, although ours was all metal/aluminum. This looks so pretty with the geraniums in it, another favorite of mine. You brought back such memories. Have a wonderful, blessed day. Thanks for the smiles.

I love your milk crate...I have the pint and quart sized bottles that would look great in that cool crate.
You stumbled onto a real treasure and for a steal. Awesome.
Your geraniums are perfect.

You have such a pretty porch, and you decorate it with such flair. This is very vintage and rustic, with the beautiful geraniums and "Old Glory...very pretty....

I always enjoy my visit with you.

It looks wonderful... what a great eye you have for vintage treasures and at amazing prices, too!

When, oh when will little Levi arrive? I can hardly wait! His mama may need to carry a milk crate around for a while, LOL!

What a great place to put your geraniums on your front porch! I love how it looks. I remember the milk man coming to our house when we were young.....oops....did I give away my age??? LOL
I also love the look of your farmhouse! I love the blue and white!
I also love all that vintage linens you have found!! I have a weakness for the vintage embroidered linens. I have them displayed in all my bathrooms!
I just clicked to follow you, so I can come back again. I see we have alot in common!
Hugs, Ann
