On Work...This Labor Day

Honor lies in hard work.

I take today to honor all the workers in our great country, who do their jobs to the best of their ability and faithfully perform their duties.  This is a day to remember what a good thing work is...and that we are fortunate if we have work at this time.

It's also time to remember that those men who are in soldier's uniforms today are not all off work--at a picnic or a barbecue, or boating on a lake-- neither are emergency workers and people who work in hospitals, fire halls, on our borders, in our power plants and on and on.

We are a people in a country that counts on the good work that others do, and we count on them to be there when we need them.  A work ethic is an invaluable characteristic.

If you've known those that missed out on having one, you know what I am talking about.  It's a sad thing when someone that could and should be productive, isn't.

Sometimes, if you stop and think about it, you realize that responsibility and dependability are the ONLY reasons this country works as smoothly as it does and has for all these years.

Think about how many times during a normal day that YOU are counting on SOMEONE ELSE to do a good job, for the safety of your family, your home, your food, and your personal safety.

In the mess that our country seems to be in, let us not lose the values instilled in us since the time of our founding fathers:  a JOB WELL DONE.  We must pass it on to the next generation.

The rewards of this are not always tangible, pride is only felt in our hearts.

Work is an honor.
Work is a pleasure
Work can be so satisfying and rewarding, meaningful.

Approach even the most mundane of tasks as something to be performed to the best of your ability.

As unto God.

Joni,
I have recently found your blog and I have read through most of it and now I am rereading it to catch the parts I've missed. I can't tell you how much I have truely enjoyed your words, pictures, recipes, ect.... I was born and raised in michigan in a small town towards the top of the glove, on lake huron called Alpena. I no longer live there, but through your words you have brought me back home. you have made me laugh, cry and oh how you make me miss being there. I guess once a michigander you will always be one in heart. I am looking forward to reading your journal each day. I had to create a blog so I could leave you this comment. Wonderful post! I'm so grateful that my husband has a good job right now. He works in the grocery business, so it's a secure job because everyone has to eat, but then he has to work every single holiday, because everyone has to eat!
Happy Labor Day!

Great blog post, Joni. We all have a lot to be thankful for. I remember when I was not happy at my job, due to a manager messing with me, I bidded my time working and doing my job, working unto the Lord, as He is my ultimate "boss" and I love him! :0>
Thank you God for the jobs we have!

BTW, we had to buy a new washer. Picked one out yesterday at Sears, I'd researched what I wanted and a good deal, since it was Labor Day sale. That was a blessing. Friend and I will pick it up in her truck on Thurs. :0) Old one still workable since it was put back together but not for long as it's having issues. Ok, bye and have a good week, my friend.!

Good words. It helped me in the past deal with a difficult boss when I would approach it that I was actually giving 100% to God - that what I did was for Him and not for man.

I'm grateful because I love to work; some people don't.

Oh, and Nancy, I know right where Alpena is, I had an uncle that lived there for years and years. Beautiful old town with lots of lovely homes.
