Back Roads Beauty: Dreaming in White...

I love this unusual window in the peak of this old barn, and the pattern of the siding in the peak.
(You can click on any photo to enlarge...my version of HD!!)

I am sharing photos today from our first snowstorm of the season a couple weeks ago. This wasn't just any snow, it was a snow that clung to everything, and blew straight out of the north in very thick wet flakes.  It was gorgeous.  And that always gives me the itch to get in the truck and go shoot for an hour or two.

This beautiful snow has long since melted, but the images still warm my heart.

I always have thought that barns best showed their beauty with snow all around them and a wintery blue sky behind them.  I hope you think so, too.

This old barn is one that photographs well in any season, but always in the snow it just looks like a post card to me.  The tree in front looks just like a Christmas tree.

Sheep live in the barnyard on the back side of the barn.  The farmhouse sits right across the old dirt road from the barnyard.  The farmer parks his cars in the barn, and the door is always open.

As I drove up to stop and open my window for the shot, the sheep all started to bellow at me, loudly.  I loved it so I sat and listened for a minute.  I bleated back, just a little, but I sure don't have the volume that they do!

I love the replaced boards in this old barn, showing just a little different red than the rest of the boards.

On this barn, the snow artfully accented each of the pieces of siding, letting each one of them be noticed.

This is an old abandoned farmhouse is not too far from where our own house sits.  I like how the wreath was left on the porch when the last occupants left.  I always want to go peek in the windows but am too chicken to trespass.

I love... just L.O.V.E! this farmhouse, and can picture it all fixed up, and would love to see a family living in and loving it.  I would fix up that wrap-around porch, hang lace curtains in the windows, and see the glow of a lamp in the window at nighttime as a soft snow falls.

Houses like this one can make me dream....how about you?

This red beauty makes my heart ache, just a little.

I love that farmhouse but hate that is is abandoned. It needs a family in there to keep it warm and cozy. It looks so cold in that photo.
