Old Mission General Store

Come with me; we will take a step back in time on the Old Mission peninsula ...if you look at the mitten of Michigan this peninsula would be near the tip of your little finger and it juts out into Lake Michigan...interestingly, its gently rolling terrain is home to many vineyards and wineries.

(Remember that you can click on any photo to enlarge and see more detail!)

to an old General Store...

And a little tiny cafe that's attached.

A welcoming front porch...

So come on in and take a look around...

See the old gilded cash register....

There are antiques mixed in with the general merchandise, all of it for sale...

Creaky old wooden floors so well-worn...crocks, baskets, and containers of all sorts!

Need a pair of button-up shoes? An old kettle?

An old screen door on the side of the building adds to the ventilation...and opens to the breezes coming in from the water as the leaves in the orchard rustle...

they've got handmade soap...

Old bottles and Watkins products...

Need a little cannon?

I loved this feed sack...

An old high-collar button-up blouse hangs next to the hand-dipped candles.
Love the wooden ceiling and walls.

Need an old time hat? Long johns for your toddler?

They had a wonderful assortment of glass-bottle pop...I chose a grape Faygo.

There was a counter that served pastries and homemade bread and other goodies...
as well as an ice cream counter.

The gentleman behind the counter was jaunty, cheerful and wore an old-fashioned hat!

Bye, now!

XOXO
Joni

Oh wow! Now this is my kind of place. Thank you for the tour, don't you just love that even the personnel are dressed old fashioned? If hubby and I were driving through and seen this place, we'd stop and plunder a while. I love your blog, I'm new to blogging and finding it very fun.

Okay, I gotta come to Michigan. It's so cool. Of course I was there when I was about 1 year old, funny I don't remember that. I would love to see the Ford museum too. Have a great week, Joni. I'll be back later to catch up completely.

What a charming little store, I love it. It's a shame there aren't hardly any of these left. I would prefer it to Walmart anyday. I love the pie sign.

I love those old general stores! They are few and far between these days.

I can spend hours poking around in those kind of places. Wish there were more of them still around.
