It Must be Saturday Morning!

Every other Saturday is a day off for dad around here. So every other Saturday morning, I cook a hot breakfast and today it's pancakes and bacon. Our youngest has a recreational league basketball double-header today, so we're off to the courts this morning.

I might be weird, but to me it's always pleasing when you're cooking a hot breakfast, and you're sure that your kids woke up and came downstairs just because they could smell the bacon...and that is the most pleasant alarm clock, no?

Do you remember in the Little House on the Prairie books when Pa would make the pancakes and he'd make a huge pancake first and then as the other ones came off the griddle, he'd "cover" the littler fellas with the big one to keep them warm?
(Sometimes, he'd make the kids pancakes in shapes they'd recognize. I've never been too successful at that.)

My stack is under this big "cover" pancake. Luke always wants the cover to eat.

Here in Michigan, there have been three straight weekends of gorgeous weather, which is something to be cherished. It's a beautiful, slightly breezy, chilly and crisp early fall morning.

Just right for pancakes and bacon!
(Gotta run and put the coffee on!)

What's YOUR favorite hot breakfast?
(Sometimes I like a good hot bowl of Cream of Wheat with a little sugar on top!)

Baked Oatmeal over sliced apples or topped with warm applesauce. Mmm!

Bacon, my own farm fresh eggs, and crusty toast to mop up all the delicious yolk. Oh yeah, and a big glass of OJ to wash it all down.
Mmmm

It MUST be Saturday at our house too- we had Cream of Wheat, toast, and Hubby made his famous egg scrambler. I love big breakfasts on Saturdays!

MMMM can smell that bacon frying!!! My fave as a kid was hotcakes and bacon. My kids love Sundays 'cause we bake cinammon rolls before church.

Looks good Joni, I love to make a nice breakfast for my family, they love waking up to the "smell". I love homemade irish oatmeal w/ brown sugar, warm butter, and real cream....not good for the hips but good for the heart (and my tummy too)! Enjoy your wonderful harvest weather out there...

Your post made me realize just how long it has been since I have had pancakes. As I read about your Saturday breakfast tradition, I remembered not the breakfast aroma, but the sounds of pots and pans rattling as Mom prepared breakfast and I was still in bed.
My fav breakfast...fried eggs, toast, grits and bacon.

Hasn't it been spectacular weather!? My favorite hot breakfast is fresh farm eggs basted (soft centers), toasted home made bread with real butter and bacon. I love waking my family up to good smells too:>)

We had pancakes and sausage this morning, enjoyed it for a change!

I don't remember the cover pancake from Little House, but that is a dandy idea!

Pancakes and bacon are my favorite, and pancakes just don't taste as good to me unless I have a few smaller cakes, stacked. They're even better with some raspberry freezer jam on top along with the maple syrup and of course a cold glass of milk must be served anytime pancakes are on the menu! My favorite breakfast memory is when our oldest daughter was home from college in '07 and she and our youngest daughter made me a dutch baby pancake in the oven with a recipe from Paula Deen. They had a warm peach sauce for the top, fresh straweberries, bacon, coffee and milk. They'd scribbled down recipes, planned, shopped and made me breakfast for Mother's Day that year. Their Dad was gone and it was just the three of us. Breakfast was delish and the memory of their thoughtfully planned surprise is even better!

Your breakfast looked so good! I would have to say that my favorite breakfast is homemade biscuits with butter and honey. I also love to have a side of cheese grits with those biscuits and a big glass of iced sweet tea. Do I get to eat that very often? No, but I would love to.

My normal daily breakfast is either Greek yogurt with fruit and granola or an Ezekiel muffin with butter and honey. I still do have iced sweet tea every morning, though.

I love breakfast for dinner! I have Fibromyalgia and this steamy, humid weather has been wreaking havoc on my body. I was in a severe flare a couple of weeks ago, and the only thing I could think of that I could stomach were pancakes.
My darling husband made them. But not just any old pancake.
Mickey Mouse pancakes! Oh, I am so grateful to have him!
Yhank you for a lovely~as always~post!
Blessings, Misha

Biscuits and gravy, fried taters and eggs over easy.
Sunday is our breakfast morning. My Dad started that tradition years ago.

I have oatmeal during the week, which I love. A couple of Saturday's a month we make sausage (turkey sausage since my husband went on a diet)gravy and biscuits. My middle son loves blueberry pancakes.

Pancakes and bacon is our standard for camping weekends! Love it!

Tip for making those cool pancake shapes...put batter in squirt bottle like the old diner-style ketchup/mustard bottles. Caught that on a cooking show sometime.
