Blues... Around the Farmhouse

I thought I'd shoot a little blue for you, and compose a collage (I just learned how!).

I hope you like it!

Here's a winter poem that describes our day here in Michigan. We had snow fall overnight and it frosted all with a fresh, clean coating. It's still snowing this morning in the way described by this poem.

SNOW TOWARD EVENING

Melville Cane, January Garden c. 1929

Suddenly the sky turned gray,

The day,

Which had been bitter and chill,

Grew intensely soft and still.

Quietly

From some invisible blossoming tree

Millions of petals cool and white

Drifted and blew,

Lifted and flew,

Fell with the falling night.

Have a beautiful day! I will be peeling and chopping some vegetables and getting ready a pot of homemade vegetable beef soup and a beef stew (cook for two meals at the same time!) and some cornbread, it's that kind of day.

Another Bright Smile Just For You....

I'm letting a rosy-cheeked friend of mine show you his cute smile today. It's super cold outside, (hovering near zero this morning!) thus the red, red cheeks. He seems to be saying, "CHEER UP! Winter doesn't really last forever, it just seems like it!"
I've had this little "relish" container for at least twenty years, and of course, was vintage at the time I got him.
He's always held spare buttons that come on my new blouses. Then I always know where to find them.
Although he's meant for relish, and is always licking his lips in anticipation, I've never used him for the table. Strangely, he seems to consistently smile anyway even though he's not allowed to be doing his proper job.
He reminds me of a Howdy Doody doll, that's why I picked him up. And my oldest son, who is very much creeped out by clowns has never said this little guy bothers him at all, in spite of the fact that he rather resembles a clown.
So Mr. Relish face says HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Happy Birthday, Honey!

Happy birthday, Jamie! You have brought much joy to us since that cold winter day when they laid all 8# 13 ounces of you in our arms back in 1983.

As the firstborn to a couple of rookies, you were the experimental model and you love us still in spite of our mess-ups and fumbles. And we loved you before you ever showed us your face, and so enjoyed all the fun you brought to our home. Always a bounce in your step (always a step ahead of mom!) and a smile, a happy, smart, and curious blonde girl!

I wish we could be with you in Alabama today, to hug you, to feed you at your choice of restaurant, and to make you a big cake with ice cream to share. But know today, as always, that we all love you and miss you and wish all the best for this brand new year!

Love, Mom and Dad, your brothers and your doggie BUDDY!
