Summer Memories...or Cabin Fever is Really Getting to Me
I'm missing warm weather and sunny bright skies. So, ocassionally, I take myself back to a summer day through my photos. In Michigan, summer includes concert dates like crazy. I don't blame artists for avoiding this place in the winter. You could have a sold-out concert ruined by a winter storm and play to just a few thousand nuts who braved the weather. So why not wait until summer when you can have all-out turnout?
This took place August 26, 2006. We went to Ford Field in Detroit for a Kenny Chesney concert. Actually, we didn't realize it, but it was a MARATHON concert. Kenny just came in for a bit and closed it. Bacardi Rum was the sponsor, and I suppose the idea was to drink lots and lots of it so that you wouldn't care how lame the SIX hours leading up to seeing Kenny would actually become!
The concert actually began at four, we left for Detroit at noon, got there at one. We ate which took over two hours not because of the awesome food or popularity of the place but because it was one of only a handful of restaurants open that day?!? We arrived at the venue almost an hour early. Okay. A couple hours and we'll see Kenny, right?! Wrong!
It ended around midnight, but I wasn't back home in my bed until almost three in the morning due to parking issues and traffic problems surrounding the awesome new venue. Someone forgot to plan for parking and traffic flow or a route to an easy entrance to the expressway from Ford Field.
Kenny (finally) came on at almost ELEVEN AT NIGHT and sang for just an hour.
Preceding him were all kinds of up and coming stars like Carrie Underwood but their microphone and sound set-up for the band was so bad and so loud you couldn't make out a word they were saying or a note they were playing. In fact, it was so bad, it was painful.
I was disappointed in that I came to see HIM and saw very little of HIM and way too much of Gretchen Wilson....! Oy.
Sorry Kenny, but it'd be nice to get back to YOU. (You've got enough star power to sing a whole concert all by your little old self with just one opener!) But I have my pictures and I'm glad I had a 10x zoom on my digital or I wouldn't have much to see! And there's always Kenny on my iTouch...so I can relive his hour in the concert and hum or sing along!

Ahhhh, how refreashing to think back on warm sunny days! I think those great Michigan summer memories are the ONLY thing that keep us Michiganders going in the winter! I LOVE our summers.
Oh, yeah....I remember sunny days, about 80 degrees, cool nights when you can sit around a campfire! PERFECT!
