From Autumn: A SWEET Vintage Picnic Basket

When I got to Autumn's baby shower, she met me at the door with this sweet-as-can-be Thank You gift she had put together.  What a thoughtful thing to do...totally unnecessary and unexpected but so very sweet.

(Autumn & Clint on their wedding day.)

She told me this was a picnic set for my Mustang, Sally, and that she had found each of the items in thrift stores and put together a picnic set for me.

The thrifted basket held a vintage Thermos in turquoise, four yellow plates, four sets of aqua plastic silverware, and four aqua cups.

As you can see, there is also a basket liner, which is really a picnic napkin liner, four new napkins in a vintage diner print she made that match the place settings.  Oh, my garsh!!

How clever is that?!
And the colors in the napkins, how perfect are they?

With Autumn and Clint just now buying their first home before baby arrives, what a clever way to give a gift without breaking the bank, and to me, it's even more special because of the creativity, consideration and time that went into it!

I love it, Autumn!  Thank you!

This little basket also makes me think...

I can't wait to use it, and I've completely neglected Sally this summer.  I think I should go check on her.

Anyone up for garage sales today?
I can bring lunch!

Vintage Baby Shower: Wrapping it Up!

This gift was a special one for Autumn from her Aunt Pam.  It's a vintage rocker,  painted a soft blue, with a sweet teddy bear softie in the seat made of chenille in soft blue, pink and aqua and cream.

A darling vintage story book accompanied the gift, as well as a bag of sweet little clothing for the new baby girl.  A doily on the back of the rocker will be great when used in the new baby's vintage nursery, and is tied with a nice pink polka-dotted bow, that Autumn will find a place to use in baby's room, too!

The only game we played was FUN!  It may not work with a small crowd, but this bunch had a ball with it.

When each guest arrived, they were given three plastic glow bracelets (found in a tube at the store) and were told that each time they heard the word "baby" they could take the bracelets from the person saying it.  It was a blast.  Everyone had fun chatting, but every now and then you'd hear a roar and everyone would be laughing because someone with an armful of bracelets had to give them all up.

It really got intense during the time Autumn opened her gifts.  You can imagine how many people said "baby" without even thinking about it until it was too late.

The last two standing each had fifteen, and it was a tie.

"Did you just say 'baby'?"

Counting the bracelets at the end.

Winners!

The prize package included a cuter than cute homemade apron, a recipe journal--all made by Mary.

This was a special gift to the GRANDPARENTS!

This was made by a friend and neighbor of Autumn's parents out of wormy chestnut, a wood not found anymore in Michigan.  This cradle was lovingly made by this sweet couple, and given to the grandparents to share with each of their children when the babies come along, and then given back for the next one...what a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and what a thoughtful and complete surprise!  The coverlet and bumper pads were made just for it also.
What a treasure--an heirloom for sure!

Inside this package from Autumns mom and dad, was a white convertible crib, for baby's room, that goes from crib, to toddler bed, to a headboard/footboard for when the baby's grown!  How smart is that?

Auntie Katie had a whole lot of fun picking out some fun new outfits for her first niece...and wrapping the package so pretty.

A party wouldn't be a party without my sweet grand-niece McKenzie!  (She was the flower girl in Autumn's wedding!)

A special dress for Christmas made for the baby by Autumn's grandma.
Red, for her first Christmas...Autumn is due the beginning of December!

So, so many special and beautiful gifts, I don't have the room to show them all here.  So many that Autumn's car was filled, the trunk, the back seat, the front passenger seat, with a few of the larger ones left so her parents could truck them down to her!  So blessed.

Thanks to all who came...

Especially to all my SISTERS!

L-R:  Anne, Mary, Pam, Me, Brenda.
Pam is just hilarious when she makes her bunny face.
(Yes, we're strange.  But we like each other that way!)

Jamie had planned to make the trip north, for the shower and a nice visit, but Levi ended up with a double ear infection--and plans abruptly changed, the baby was too sick and miserable to even think about a trip.  We missed her.  (I went down a few days after Autumn's shower, sort of as a "consolation prize" for her...just got back Tuesday night.)

I am so glad you stopped by...

Mary made little tissue holders to give to each guest as they left the shower...sweet designs on all of them.

Have a SUNNY day!

Vintage Baby Shower Part 2: Welcoming

Welcoming the guests at Pine Hollow Lodge was a cheery sign and a brightly-painted red door.

And matching red rockers...

So cheery and bright.

Inside was also sweet...

Flowers brought from the garden of one of Autumn's friends, arranged in McCoy vases.

Delicious cupcakes...just waiting to be eaten.

Mary made pennants to hang for her granddaughter's shower...and cute they were!

They were found in many places, each cuter than the last one.

The punch table was even part of the pretty decorations, as its cheery tin top is red gingham!

Our cool and refreshing punch is easy to do and won't be forgotten by your guests if you serve it:  One two-liter of 7-Up to one frozen can of white grape juice concentrate and ice to fill the punch bowl.  Not too sweet and almost clear in color--it was dressed up with juicy red strawberry slices.

The cheery old red soda cooler was put to use with chilled sodas for the guests.

The menu was cool summer foods:  giant sub sandwiches and many kinds of delicious cold salads; fruit kabob, and fresh vegetables--shared with us by Autumn's friend, Keisha....

Next up?

GOODIES!

The presents!

A Vintage Baby Shower

A vintage shower at Pine Hollow Lodge is just the right way to celebrate a baby soon to be born to my niece and her husband.  Autumn, if you remember, is very into vintage:  we celebrated with a vintage housewife bridal shower, and then she and her parents created a beautiful vintage-style wedding.

Here is Autumn and her mom, Mary, and her sister Katie; posing with the beautiful cake Autumn made all on her own--for her own baby shower!

Did I mention it was decorated with fondant she made herself all decorated with tiny "quilt squares" as well as a topper that Autumn made and hand-painted using food coloring, each one of them a beautiful piece of vintage-style art.  (Remember the cake Autumn made for our Vintage Toy Baby Shower for Levi?  Here it is.)

Using vintage prints of baby cards or shower invitations or of vintage coloring book pages, each "quilt square" took about an hour to paint.

Then the cake itself was absolutely delicious with each layer a different combination of flavors, and the fillings all delicious and each one wonderful.  One layer was vanilla with chocolate ganache, one was chocolate with peanut butter ganache, and one chocolate with butter cream frosting.

Each of the little red flowers were made by Autumn and Katie using fondant.

I loved the combination of colors with the pink and red so brilliant.

My favorite was this square with baby clothes hanging on the line!

The adorable little vintage lamb held the spoons for the cake.

Next, I'll show you more from the vintage baby shower, all of the photos just as delicious as this cake!

Y'all come back, ya hear?
