Vintage Christmas Monday

I am again participating in Joan's VINTAGE CHRISTMAS MONDAY...if you'd like to see more, hop on over and check out the long list of blogs doing the same; they are on the right hand side of her blog. This has been a lot of fun; I'm so happy that Joan is hosting this.

(Click any photo to enlarge.)

Above is a little vignette on an extra chair sitting in the dining room. Christmas snuck up on me this year, and instead of clearing off every shelf and every surface, I made do with some quick decorating. This chair was empty already and saved me the trouble of taking down and stowing away so it got the privilege of holding these vintage skates, the Hans Brinker book and an old Ball canning jar with candle and Christmas baubles tossed on top of some Kosher salt! I added the snowflake and the mitten to give it some color.

Under the tree are a few vintage games or toys I've collected this summer at garage sales, mostly they were a quarter, some a dime. I never decorate the same way twice in a row, and this year a theme seems to have emerged at the farmhouse, and that is "vintage toys"....they're scattered all through the living and dining rooms!

The Spirograph is just like the my own I received one Christmas in the seventies. I'm sure some of you were just as thrilled as I was when you got yours...what fun to spin that pen around with the different "gears" and create all sorts of designs, with FOUR colored pens...and they were ALL mine! WOW! *Ü*

This book was featured in last week's Vintage Christmas Monday. It's sitting on my dining room table, covered in a vintage tablecloth I dug out of a box under a table at a garage sale: I paid a quarter for it. Amazing price for such a treasure!

I came home, cleaned it up and it's a new favorite...just too cute and reminds me of when I was a kid.

And this year, I couldn't pass the spicy gumdrops in a little tiny local grocery....those bring back "vintage" memories for me. Even as a kid I LOVED spicy gumdrops, the little white paper bagful I'd get at the dime store, to me was like a bag full of brightly colored jewels.

First, I'd enjoy the lady behind the counter grabbing the big silver scoop, and I'd watch through the glass showcase as she'd get the ones I'd pointed to. JOY! I'd pop one into my mouth, savor the sugar melting on my tongue, and then bite into it. What a great invention: gumdrops. I wish sometimes that today there weren't so many choices for little kids. These were awesome but I bet very few kids today would taste them!

(Gosh, I really sound old when I say stuff like that! Guess I'm ready to be a grandma, right!?! LOL)

I hope you enjoyed vintage Christmas Monday...and feel free to admit that you like gumdrops, too and Spirographs...or even an Etch-a-Sketch!

Everything you posted about brought back childhood memories for me including the spicy gum drops.

I went to Ball State University in Muncie Indiana...home of Ball Jars! I went to the factory when I was in college..and they have a wonderful glass museum there on the campus!

Thanks for participating in the Vintage Christmas Monday blog party. I look forward to next week's post. xo Joan, your hostess

I loved my etch-a-sketch Joni! It kept me company for a quite a few car trips! Now kids have to have things that beep and require batteries to grab their attention! I played with my spirograph alot too....until my brothers found that they made good "flying saucers". Lol........loved your post, it brought back some fun memories!

I love your idea of putting vintage toys under the tree! May I borrow this idea next year?!
I packed alot of stuff away this year in order to put more decorations out. I've never done that before, and I don't know that I'll do it again. I like your little vignettes, especially the vintage books in them. This was such a wonderful post, gving me that cozy, homey feeling, just like all of your posts do!
Merry Christmas and Happy VCM!

Goodness! You hit the spot! I forgot about the "Spirograph" Hahahaa!
That game and the "Etch-a-Sketch" were two of my favorites...Sorry I can't say the same about the spicy gumdrops...I really did like the non-spicy "Chuckles", though :+D
Great post!

I wish they still made spirograph's: I loved them, too. And Mattel Chrissy dolls. If i had the $$ i'd start a toy company specializing in manufacturing new "old" toys. Toy companies should do this. Instead Mattel is introducing "Burka Barbie's" and "Sugar-Daddy Ken" dolls. Stupid. I'd like to tell them what they can do with their Burka Barbie's! But, your blog post is a nice respite from a baffling world...

Forgot to say: Love the tablecloth. What a cheerful Santa. I never got much into the victorian-type St. Nick, but the Jolly old Saint Nick is adorable!

Loved it all! Great memories. When I saw the gumdrops, I got to thinking that SOMEWHERE I have a vintage gumdrop "tree"! Do you happen to remember those??? I wish I had more energy to open a few more boxes. Perhaps I could find it.

I admit it, I love them all. I am a grown up grandma with a childhood from the 60's and 70's. I can taste the gumdrops! Thanks for stopping by and for sharing. If you did not get the snow I am guessing you do not live to near Howard City.? Have a great week!
