Come Into My Guest Room!

This is the bed in the guest room. Don't you just love the rosy sheets? Last summer, I started noticing these gorgeous vintage 100% cotton MADE IN USA sheets at garage sales and picked up any that had roses on them, if they were in good shape. I have some in blue, yellow, and pink. Most of the time what I find are just the flat sheets and I put them in a pile and some of them will be cut up to make pajama pants or aprons with, and then some of them ....

Will be used to make up the bed in my guest room. It's a twin, and it's in a bright and cheerful room that's also my hobby room. Last year, I found the top sheet shown here and in the top photo in the foreground, with a nice border that has piping. The quality of these sheets is amazing, and who knows, they may have come from Kmart, but over the years, we've gotten so used to the new junk from Asia that we've lost the feel of these very smooth, heavyweight, and cool-to-the touch sheets we used to know. (Those quality of these "cheap" old 100% cotton made in USA sheet sets would now be considered a luxury item.)

So last week at a garage sale, I was more than thrilled to find a fitted sheet with similar roses in similar colors, only with the added bonus of polka dots, AND being a fitted sheet for a twin bed, which is what I've got in the guest room.

I was so happy that I could FINALLY put to use my vintage sheets to make up my guest bed, so I did, and I thought I'd show you. Come on upstairs...

Ahhh....time for bed! Pull back the covers and make yourself at home!

The lace edged pillowcases were in perfect condition and were also a garage sale find for fifty cents...those are crisp and cool and the pillows puffed and ready for your lil' head!

And at the foot of the bed, is a vintage granny square afghan, a Christmas gift from my mom...that is ready just in case you get chilled up here. This bedroom has no heat vents so extra blankets are a must. The bunny? Well, he's lived in this room his whole life, my daughter left him behind when she moved, so he's here to keep you company! Hope you sleep well!

I just bought new 'beige' sheets and commented that I wish they had the pretty small prints they had years ago. You made a wonderful find! I love soft sheets! I washed mine in Lavender scented detergent today...a green product! They smell so good!

What a cozy guest room. I love vintage sheets, that's what I put on my bed too. I had sheets just like those with polkadots and roses on them when I was a little girl. :) I have been looking for floral sheets for my girls as well. They sure don't make them like they used too, that's for sure.
Blessings, Molly

I am so glad you found a fitted sheet to match, I love your guest room! I would love to snuggle up in there and take a nap. I agree, things just aren't made like they used to be. I am going to be on the lookout for old sheets at goodwill/garage sales too.

What a sweet guest room! I am happy that you were able to find a complementary fitted sheet to go with your flat...and at a good deal at that!

Hope you are doing well! I've been remiss in posting lately.

Blessings to you from Kansas,
Valerie

How sweet is that!
Good job matching up and calling it done.
I just love garage sales, etc. The treasures we can find are amazing and they truly turn a house into a warm home with a good feel to it.
Enjoying your blog.

Hi Joni,

Your blog is so homey ! Love it !.. Yes, those sheets are great ! My sister gave me some white vintage muslin sheets she found in a cedar chest still in the original packaging. I am using one of those sheets to make some of my primitive creations.

The quality of those vintage sheets, are as you say, a luxury item !

I have the very same little throw pillow as show on your bed. I have my little pillow placed on a little sewing rocker.

I loved the post from your garage sales hunt ! I am in love with that little toy boat !
The garage/yard sales here do not compare at all with yours !

Hugs,
Linda

What a lovely guest room! I think your pink roses sheets are the same as the ones in my guest room! Except that I bought mine on sale at the store, LOL, many years ago!

You are so right, Joni! They sure don't make 'em like they used to! And that goes for pretty much everything. A fridge is only built to last about 10 years now. But you can find plenty that were built 40 years ago that are still running fine. Sorry....I get angry at some of these things. Consumer beware!!!

We were married 49 years ago this month, in 1962. We got several double-sized sheets and pillow cases sets for wedding gifts, and they were in this same print. We had them in pink, yellow, and blue. We used them until the centers of the bottom sheets started to wear thin, then I folded a box pleat lengthwise down the center and sewed it flat, and they became twin size fitted sheets for our children's beds! I think I remember them being Cannon brand, and that was an excellent made in the USA brand. I have stacks of beautiful handmade pillowcases with hand embroidery and trim, some even tatted, but my cases are too narrow for modern pillows, since my grandmother made our pillows out of old feather beds she had then. I wish I could come up with a way to use them. She and my mother made them out of 100 % heavy cotton called Indian Head, and they also did elaborate drawn-thread work, called hemstitching. I have an appliqued pair of cases on my kitchen window, hanging with clip rings, for curtains. Any ideas?
