Independence Day Tea Party Lansing, MI

My sister's brilliant idea for a sign...she let me hold it to have my picture taken. She and my niece Katie did the artwork and as usual, it's great. I contributed the lettering....

This sign was my idea....'Obama says "HAPPY DEPENDENCE DAY" ' Good slogan ideas come to me every now and then. I know Obama wants us all to depend on HIM...but at some point, that will become impossible; besides that, the smarter among us REMEMBER KATRINA...HELLO! I do NOT want to depend upon the government and do not believe the government does much of a good job at looking out for me or my family. There are only a couple of things the government does well, one of them being the military.

There are over 300 million of us, and I know the government cannot take care of everybody! I was amazed at some of the folks in New Orleans interviewed immediately after the flood saying they were all mad at their government for letting them down, and one woman even said "The government didn't send nobody up in here to get me." WHAT? I had no idea anyone in this country thought that the government had special little guardian angels set aside for each of us. OUR BRAIN is supposed to be usable and our gumption should be enough to tell us that when a catastrophic hurricane is coming to an area that sits well below sea level that it might be time to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT MYSELF!

Sorry, got carried away there....

Seems like there were some revolutionaries long ago who knew the government wasn't good for a whole lot and because of them, an independent nation was born that set up LIMITED GOVERNMENT.

I liked this kid's idea for a sign...and his hat, too!

The crowd intently listens to the speakers.

My sister and her husband and daughter Katie came down from up north to go over to Lansing. My husband stayed home to tend to the dinner I had started, and we all ate when we got back home. The sky was overcast most of the day and it was CHILLY...(will all global warming adherents please come to Michigan and bring Al Gore with you as well as your jackets and mittens please.)

People of all shapes and all sizes and ALL AGES come out to show their support for our Constitution...

This lady's sign cracked me right up!
INDEED!

(click any photo to enlarge!)

How true, this!

We protesters are a loud and disorderly, violent bunch, as you can see here.
(I am not surprised that we're on government watch lists!)

This lady's beautiful sign and artwork makes me want to cry....see the tears on Lady Liberty?

This is a beautiful young family that I know who came up just after we did and stood at the back with us...the kids were all dressed in red, white & blue and they'd been to a parade that morning and were heading to a lake that afternoon and to the fireworks, but took the time to come and protest and support the Constitution. That's the way to "train them up"!

Hi Joni! I love your patriotic posts! We have yet to attend a tea party, and I'm very disappointed about that! Hopefully the next one in the KC area! Thanks so much for your sweet comments about my little punkin. Have a lovely night.

LOVE,LOVE, LOVE this post! I am still amazed at how the main media is dumbstruck by the new Prez.Stress on the DUMBstruck. Maybe we will be raising a new generation of people who remember their family tradition of "tea parties", I think I see one in our future!

PS: You have inspired me to make myself a patriotic apron. I'm going to the March On Washington, September 12th. I will be proudly wearing my apron and a red, white and blue sparkly crown! Can you join me? I'd love to see you there! Come on gals, let's have a whole apron brigade in the parade!!

Hello.
Though I live in Kansas, I felt like I was right there with you at your tea party via blog.

The pics are great.
I think we are fortunate to be able to have such parties of protest with signs and all.

Years ago I went to the Topeka Capitol and we were told that we could not wear sayings on our clothes while inside the Capitol Building. Hummmmm.

Appreciate this post and seeing what it's all about.

Blessings,
~D~

We have 2 Canadian families here in our church ward and they say that's why they left Canada, because of the health care and taxes. They notice a huge difference since living here but they are astounded that we are allowing our freedom to be squashed so quietly! Amen to that. Also an emergency room visit in that country is at least a 6 hour wait. That said that's the least amount of time you can count on and that many people die because of it. Wake up, America, this health care plan is abhorrent! I'm with you, sugar, and so are our new friends from Canada!!!!!

It's even been cool here in DC. Yesterday - the 8th of July and it was 78 with no humidity. Global Warming? Yeah, whatever.

A wonderful post. I fear for our country. Too many people seem to think that the taxes they pay mean the government will take care of all their problems. Right. As for health care, imagine the service you get at the DMV and unemployment office...now imagine that civil "servant" caring about your health. Ummm, yeah..
