Rites of Spring

I am always amazed at how a few weeks of the spring rains can bring total transformation to a lawn or yard.

(I can't really call ours a lawn, as it's more weeds than grass!  But if I didn't have weeds, there wouldn't be much here!)

Where the yard --once the snow leaves us--is brown, trampled, pathetic and absolutely hideous.  Soon, all that turns green, has life, and is, with time, absolutely beautiful.

All I have to do is pick up sticks and rake, and tend to it.

Thank God he sends the rain, and makes that transformation.

Today, I spent a couple mind-neutral hours on the lawn mower.

I enjoyed it.  (When I wasn't noticing all the jiggling going on!)

All I think about is whether I'm going to go horizontal, vertical, or diagonal with my pattern.

Then I buzzzzz around and enjoy that work, looking forward to the finished product--and it actually stays done for a few days--unlike so many of the other chores I might do!

I can enjoy the breezes, the sunshine, and yes, the best part:  the smell of two-cycle engine oil in my hair.

(Oh, admit it, you like that scent, too!)

And, I spotted my first dandelion.  Its many relatives will soon be appearing.  I've learned to live with them.  They may as well be welcome, I can't run 'em off.  The yard is too big and they gang up on me.

Acceptance:  'tis sometimes a good thing.

So...

I say "mow the lawn".

And some say "cut the grass".

Some say "cut the lawn".

Still others say "mow the grass".

What do you say?

Mow the lawn. Have a great day! We are pretty weedy too! :) At least it is green. Blessings!

Around here we say it's time to cut the grass. Funny, never realized all the different ways of saying it.

I think I just say "mow". Ha! And when I want to really feel important and a little upscale, I say "mow the estate" for fun! The estate with sticks, dog poop, deer poop, coyote poop, dandelions, etc...

Mow the yard, cut the grass. Trying to keep a nice lawn is never ending! That is, til winter hits. Like my husband asks, "Do we own this place or does it own us?" It owns us!
