This post is to sing the praises of flowering kale (the ruffly plant in the back, on the left and right).
It's beautiful, and next year, I plan to get more and spread its glory around the yard. It's even more beautiful in the cool fall weather and so it lasts a long time.

We've tried to plant many different kinds of flowers out here by this sign, but since it's so far out in the yard, it's hard to maintain anything that needs a ton of watering, babying or deadheading.
The geraniums are just about right but they're getting pushed out of the picture by this perennial we planted (anyone know the name of the feathery silvery plant in the center? We don't!).

The kale has been in the ground about two months and has filled in the area we needed to fill so completely and so well. By fall, when it's time to remove the geraniums and the perennial has faded, the kale will be at its most beautiful, the color on them ( a good purple) come out to be the most brilliant with the cool fall days and they get huge with the help of the fall rains.
Somehow, flowering kale just seems right for a farmhouse flower bed.

It looks like "Silver Mound Artemisia". It is also called "Angels Hair" and is a perennial.

It is so wonderful that you live where 100 yrs. of family have resided at one time or another. Your Silver Mound Artimesia in the center of your bed of kale and geraniums is gorgeous. It looks wonderful.

I love the kale. It lasts so well into the fall. One year I even used it to make curly hair on one of our snowmen.
