Shrimp Fry: Bubba Gump Style

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it."

A couple times a year I get a hankerin' for some shrimp: deep fried.

I DO like sauteed shrimp, it's my favorite way. It's the way I normally fix it.
But sometimes ya just gotta go whole hog!

A friend of mine (thanks, Robyn!) told me her way of making breaded shrimp and I just had to try it. I had a package of raw shrimp in the freezer that I had bought on sale at Kroger.
I thawed it in ice water, drained it, cleaned it, cut the tails off and got it ready for the dippin'.

Now what do you need to make this delectable treat?

Pancake mix.....yes, that's what I said!

You can season it with paprika, OR you can use the seasonings shown above, which is what I did.

Thin the pancake batter out with some water after you add your seasonings. Get your oil hot.

Hmm....said Goldilocks. How is my shrimp right now? Is it JUST RIGHT?

NO! This shrimp is TOO PUFFY! Goldilocks wanted her shrimp JUST RIGHT!

Your batter is thin enough when it looks like this while it's on the seafood....you should still be able to see the shrimp THROUGH the batter.

Is this okay Goldilocks?

Goldilocks? Goldilocks? Hello?

Well...Goldilocks is sitting down, rollin' up her sleeves, eatin as fast as she can, I suspect!

But my family said it was THE BEST shrimp they'd ever had, bar none. Better than a restaurant, and that's always a high compliment to a cook.

It's simple and delicious, so give it a try!

This looks wonderful!!! I'm wondering what'll happen to our shrimp eating with this mess in the Gulf! Guess we'd better enjoy it while we can, right? I do want to try this.

That looks so delicious. You make it sound so easy too by explaining it so well, and with pictures too (I'm such a visual learner). Btw, hankering fits one of those words for your last post :-) My dad uses that word alot.
You've got some great music on your blog. I usually have my sound off when I'm online, but I want to stay, just to listen to your music.
Blessings,
