Great Expectations: The Joys of Boys!

Lately, I've been all about boys. Not that there's anything wrong with girls--there's not!--it's just that I'm going to become Nana to a little guy here pretty soon!

There's another branch coming on the family tree!

Can't wait to wrap him up, squeeze him and hug him....
and say

"Howdy Lil' Pardner!"

Above is a fun, quick little quilt I made for my little grandson-to-be.

It's a simple crib-size with a rectangular center and then strips to "frame" the fun cowboy print that is the focal point of the quilt. It's perfect for his retro cowboy nursery.

The center piece is a Michael Miller Print and there are several more similar retro cowboy prints from that company, and they're all way too cute; it would be hard to choose just one.

The first "frame" is denim, the second is bandanna fabric, and the third and outer one is brown corduroy: all boy.

And of course, when I see small cowboy boot, I simply must buy it...!
(Q-tips would fit perfectly in there!)

And a tin star...yes, that looks "cowboy" must have that, too!

So. Much. Fun!

I'm looking forward to years of trains, dump trucks, bib overalls, baseball caps, frogs, puppies, games of catch, and eyes that won't let me say "no!".

And I think about this little guy, and the possibilities for his life and how far he can go with two great parents.

BUT first, there's...

The newborn goodness;
sweetness that comes to us
straight from heaven
with his sweet smell,
those little hands,
and tiny feet,
his cry,
his eyes,
his soft-as-velvet hair that I can't wait to kiss.

I think about the rocking,
cuddling,
bathing,
lullabies,
and then
all the milestones to come.

There's just something about boys, and I know that I can't wait to get to know this little guy. As a nana, I'm equally excited to see my daughter become a mother: I know she'll be a great one.

Most of all, I am really looking forward to see that big six foot four man melt into a puddle when that little boy is put into his arms for the first time.

Oh man, I love this. I have been slowly gathering vintage cowboy.. the only problem is them I would have to really act like he is getting bigger... he is going to be 5 in 4 weeks and I can't bare to take down the gnome stuff and replace it...
I need another boy.
