Jammin'

Said one jam pot to the other:  "Are you full?"

It's almost time to make Strawberry Jam
Easiest, and most rewarding thing to make for your family...

Our little strawberry patch has served us very well and filled the freezer with jam and berries for over ten years.  After this bearing season is through, they will all pulled and thrown out and we start again with a new patch of plants.

It's truly amazing what the earth will give us for just a little effort and time.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING tastes better than a vine-ripened strawberry from your own little piece of dirt.  Anything found in a store has been off the vine far too long and has no comparison in sweetness.

And the little bunnies that live in the patch and have the babies each spring are a bonus sent by God for our delight and enjoyment.

Even though our patch has looked a little weary for several years and we've just been too busy to do anything about it, it still has given much fruit; and abundant enough to share!  Last year was so so, but the year before we could pick gallons a day out of it.

Strawberries are well worth the work.

Do you have a patch?

berry patches are just the thing for grand children. they love to help pick. and a joy to watch thier small hands pluck the sweet red strawberries. My grand daughter won't eat any jam other than her nana's I have a strawberry patch, and blueberries, raspberries, marrion berries, and tons of wild black berries to many to can all. I freeze some then make jelly out of them in middle of winter. when my supply runs low.

We grow them in wine barrel halves. I looked the other day and found no blooms on the regular strawberries, but our alpine ones have blooms:) I can HARDLY wait till we have strawberries!!!
Blessings, Aimee
PS: It's almost midnight here and homemade strawberry jam on toast sounds SO yummy!

I make strawberry jam, strawberry-rhubarb, also triple berry with strawberries, blackberries and raspberries. YUM YUM

I truly enjoy your blog!! I try to read it at least once or twice a week. It is very uplifting. Like a breath of fresh air for me. Your grandchildren are adorable and I love to watch how they are growing like little weeds; the recipes are amazing and the craft ideas are GREAT.
Thanks again for sharing!
