The Magic of the Ordinary: Waking up to Breakfast

It's Saturday morning and no one is awake but me.

I'm humming along to country music playing on the kitchen radio.

Even the dogs are sleeping in.  It's been a long week.

I love the magic feeling of knowing that the smell of bacon sizzling on the stove is going to be their wake-up alarm this morning, instead of the harsh sound of a beep or a bell.

This is one of the priveleged feelings known to a mom--maybe because I know how much I loved waking up to that smell.

You?

I definitely know how you feel. Saturday mornings here are for pancakes, waffles or french toast served with bacon as we gather around the table as a family. Enjoy these special moments.

I love the quietness of the morning...the breaking of a new day...filled with possibilities...

Egg in the hole is the order for this morning.....

I made sun pickles...bringing them in today...they have had a full week of heat/sunshine here in NE Ohio...

On cool mornings, love the smell of the way the bacon moves thru the cool air, and the well the coffee smells....it is a little bit of heaven...a simple joy for me...

Great post! Seems like whenever I make bacon, my husband always repeats the story of how that smell is a fond memory of visiting his Grandmas's house.

We slept in this a.m. I did make pizza this evening between ads of a movie we watched, unexpectedly. Hubby sits down with remote in hand and I was resting from grocery shopping, but it was a good movie! I made homemade biscuits last night to go with our fish fillets. Love cooking for the family. Love your post!

It's so nice for those who have to get up early during the week to be able to sleep in on the weekend, isn't it?

LOVE those spatulas!

I'm thinking you are on the western side of the state? Your house is lovely.

Hi to Catty (CW)....and I would love to stop by your shop next time I visit Port Huron. I'm outside of Detroit.

Hi Faith...Sun pickles? Mmm!
