(Her bouquet was a collection of vintage brooches). I knew I wanted to come back and explore your site more but couldn't find it until now. We moved from Wichita, KS(400,000) to Stafford, KS (1200) where the kids and I lived for almost 13 years. We moved back to a suburb of Wichita (Derby) and I miss that small town atmosphere. I am the administrator of a nursing home 60 miles from my home in a town of 300. The commute through the flint hills and country side help but I do think I'll move to a smaller town again one day! The copy on eBay that was so high was probably a special edition that collectors covet; Little Mommy is available new on Amazon.com and it's 3.99! I hope you can get it!
http://www.amazon.com/Little-Mommy-Golden-Book/dp/0375848207/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1317412227&sr=1-1Old Centennial Farmhousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16865061855481840216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606161041749648789.post-82540851116110792502011-09-30T15:33:28.253-04:002011-09-30T15:33:28.253-04:00Oh, this is so timely. I was just thinking about ...Oh, this is so timely. I was just thinking about how much I loved Golden Books when I was a little girl, and how much my older daughter loved them when she was a toddler. At barely two, she loved one called, "Little Mommy", and had it memorized. I would read it to her and she would "read" it back to me. I so wish I had kept that book, but with several moves, the books all went by the wayside. Just this morning, I looked on eBay, and a first edition (1967) copy of "Little Mommy" was for sale for $120.00! I couldn't believe it!
Maybe you should hang on to those books!
Thanks for a trip down memory lane.
We must be on the same wavelength today.
nancyrEchoes From the Hillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03012454336216415478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606161041749648789.post-72065757492752663942011-09-30T14:33:55.945-04:002011-09-30T14:33:55.945-04:00You have a great collection...I buy these whenever...You have a great collection...I buy these whenever I see them at garage sales. In fact, many of the titles you show, I read to her just yesterday! We generally buy them at the grocery store or at a small toy store that has the revolving rack. Border's had a nice selection but now they are gone. One of our antique stores has scads of them. Many of hers, however, actually belong to her mother because every week meant a new book at the grocery store! My daughter won't let me use my Nook Color with the granddaughter -- she wants - appreciate books and I completely agree so no e-reader for our little one!Boyett-Brinkleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02066753762645278933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606161041749648789.post-13964700171480882892011-09-30T08:53:24.038-04:002011-09-30T08:53:24.038-04:00I handed most everything down to younger cousins. ...I handed most everything down to younger cousins.
When I recently discovered that some of the Little Golden Books were re-released, I grabbed up what I've seen by my favorite illustrators, who happen to be Garth Williams and Eloise Wilkin! When we moved from NH to California a few years ago, I had to go through everything!! Everything that had collected for generations in a big old 5 bedroom New Englander. All of the toys that I had saved for my grandchildren had to be condensed down to a box full. The books that we had collected were gone through and we kept 2 large size boxes of them and shipped them to my daughter that had a child at that time. She still has all of the books and will be distributing them to her siblings as they have children. What a nice walk down memory lane.
